marie claire title bar keywords - "pretty comedians - pretty and funny actresses"

With Amy Poehler's new sitcom, Parks and Recreation, premiering this month, and Tina Fey ruling Hollywood from atop a pile of Emmys, funny women are having a moment. MC rounds up the pioneers, the visionaries, and the chemically imbalanced to talk about how we got here. We ask the pros:

long-ish, but kathy griffin gets off some good quotes )

Each issue of DC's SOLO series features a different artist getting to do whatever the hell they want with 48 pages of four color comics action. If you've checked it out already, you know that it is generally pretty awesome. If you haven't, now is a good time to start because the latest issue, drawn by comics' favorite Mormon Mike Allred (of Madman and X-Statix fame), is one of the best yet.

Under the cut are four pages (which I did not scan myself) taken from the various short stories plus the table of contents, which is hosted by Bizarro. I don't know how good a job I did picking out representative pages but seriously you guys, I just said "the table of contents, which is hosted by Bizarro," why are you still reading this and not running to your friendly neighborhood comics store, literally running as fast as you can, overexerting yourself so that you have to ask the asthmatic 12-year-old in front of the manga shelves if you can borrow his inhaler, to buy a copy?? ANYWAY, I think it'd be worth a buy for the art alone but the stories (written by Allred, his wife and super awesome colorist Laura, and brother Lee) put a big stupid grin on my face the whole time I was reading it as well. It just came out last week and should still be on shelves at finer comics retailers everywhere. HERE WE GO:

AN HOUR WITH HOURMAN features Rex Tyler burning off an hour's worth of Miraclo, and is awesome!

DOOM PATROL VS TEEN TITANS features the olde school Bob Haney-style 60s hep cat Silver Age Titans partying hearty a floor above the olde school Silver Age Doom Patrol with hilarious results, and is awesome!
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
BATMAN A GO-GO is drawn in the style of the 60s TV show and I don't wanna explain any more, but it is really awesome!! Batman's not one of my favorites but I bet everyone here would like this.

FOURTH WORLD WAGER is only two pages so I won't put up anything from it, but it is pretty awesome just to see Mike Allred drawing the Fourth World characters!!
COMIC BOOK CLUBHOUSE is a silent story in which DC's Silver Age line of stars save the clubhouse of the young brothers Allred from the Mad Mod and is just as cute as it sounds. AND IS AWESOME!!!

Here are links for you suckers still on dial-up:

Go buy it, I almost don't want to spoil his artist picture but how can you not support the work of this dude?? PS The Darwyn Cooke and Paul Pope issues have also been extremely slammin' and come highly recommended.
